gh steps up to the plate - sponsors community youth baseball team
gh is proud to have the opportunity to support the 13U Highland Hornets baseball team through a sponsorship. The gh Mission and Vision align perfectly with youth sports - both providing an avenue for camaraderie, community, and fun, as well as creating a positive difference in the lives of communities.
Highland family impacted by house fire,
gh provides assistance
On March 22, a Highland (Medina, OH) family suffered a devastating house fire and lost everything. The family currently has three school=aged students (two in middle school and one in high school) as well as two infant siblings and a sister who graduated in 2019. Through the Highland Community Support Network, guy hang was able to assist with a monetary donation for immediate needs - including finding appropriate housing and providing either cash donations or gift cards.
community, and help - in a time of need
gh recognizes that the current situation of the pandemic has created a crazy and tough environment, in so many ways, and while the group is not currently able to get-together, there's still work to be done... support that can be provided. One of the words in gh's Mission is "community" and it strikes close to us all hat we are in times where the call for help in our communities is quite high.
The generosity of gh came through! Here is a message from someone that helped facilitate an introduction and a need for help:
"Good morning.
I wanted to reach out to you and the group and thank you for your generosity for two members of the Wadsworth community that your group helped in the past month. The father and son who received your gift cards were overwhelmed with appreciation, and I can share that they were most deserving given their tough economic situation. Knowing this family as I do, they have a number of challenges that were difficult prior to the pandemic, but these were only exacerbated as the past few months have passed. Couple this with the father having had recent surgery, and the gift cards helped to bring a welcome smile to their faces. As the father shared, he does not know who the group is, but he and his son thank these kind fellas for helping his family.
On a personal note, I want to thank the Guy Hang group for helping to be a resource in a time when there are so many in need. I have always had a place in my heart for the guys that I have had a chance to meet, have as friends, but this experience has shown the true gift of humanity and kindness that is not lost in our world, even when we think it may be."

gh supports "Read Across America"

gh is reading - and donating - to a kindergarten class at the Helen Arnold school in Akron - The Big Blue Book of Beginner Books.
...written by Madison: "Imagine you as a book. Getting ordered...EXCITING! Then getting pictures to go on a website... even better…! Then going in a car to be read. Lastly gh passes out books. I get taken home with a little kid named James. (I made that last part up, the name)" |
gh supports "Read to Me Day Akron"
Reading aloud to children stimulates language and cognitive skills and builds motivation, curiosity and memory. gh had the opportunity to discover how great it felt to help introduce children to a lifetime of love of books by volunteering to read in an Akron Public Schools classroom.
Volunteers were encouraged to bring a library book, a book of their own, or a new book to donate to the classroom, and gh stepped-up – providing books to each and every child in the class. |
